Acrylic and textured paste on canvas | 100 × 120 × 3.5cm
Happy is a lighter sister piece designed to sit alongside Healing. As with Healing, I rotated this work 90° each time I returned to it, because happiness arrives from every direction - there is no single right way up. The composition loops, swirls and occasionally runs away with itself, full of movement and light. I began introducing short phrases in different languages on this piece to reflect that, regardless of gender or race, we all experience joy. Happy is meant for everyone; it isn’t a shouty, in‑your‑face statement but a gentle, nurturing presence - like a warm hug for the soul.
Archival varnish has been applied to protect the painted surface and ensure longevity.
Signed by the artist and includes a certificate of authenticity.
The artist, Deborah Phillips, retains the copyright of the piece.
This artwork is currently unavailable while under consideration for exhibition and competition opportunities. Expressions of interest are welcome.
