After the Burn

£590.00

Acrylic on Wooden Panel | 61 x 46 × 4cm

Original Mixed-Media Artwork | Deborah Phillips

After the Burn is a deeply personal exploration of loss, transformation and the quiet strength found in rebuilding after destruction.

Created using layers of texture, burnt calico, and unexpected materials, including coffee grounds and hair from my dogs after they were groomed, this artwork carries a story of endings and new beginnings. Its origins lie in the burning of bridal gowns from a former chapter of the artist's life - an experience that transformed objects once associated with celebration, hope and possibility, into something altogether different.

Destruction however, does not have to mean the end of a story.

Through heavily worked surfaces, charred textures and contrasting materials, After the Burn explores what remains when something familiar is lost. Dark, fractured areas speak of the weight of the past, while emerging golden details suggest resilience, renewal and the possibility of finding beauty in what has been broken.

The inclusion of discarded and unconventional materials is central to the artwork's meaning. What might ordinarily be overlooked, swept away or thrown out becomes an integral part of something new. In this transformation lies a simple but powerful idea: something does not lose its value simply because its original purpose has ended.

Both raw and reflective, After the Burn is not about erasing what has happened, but acknowledging it, carrying its traces forward and allowing something different to emerge.

A reminder that even after the burn, there is still something worth saving, something worth becoming.

The artwork has been created using mixed media and reclaimed materials.

Signed by the artist and includes a certificate of authenticity.
