Acrylic on Wood | 61 × 45.5cm
Northern Lights is a bold, expressive piece filled with dynamic texture and electric colour. Created using palette knives and a range of mark-making tools, this abstract painting evokes the energy and mystery of the aurora borealis with layered blues, vibrant greens, and streaks of black and red. The surface is rich with movement and visual rhythm, with ridges, scrapes, and subtle circular motifs catching the light.
This work belongs to my early In the Beginning Collection, where I first began exploring texture and layering through intuitive, tool-led techniques. Painted on wooden panel and retrospectively sealed on the reverse to preserve its condition. Like my other early wooden work, this piece has some warping.
Archival varnish has been applied to protect the surface and ensure longevity.
Signed by the artist and includes a certificate of authenticity.
The artist, Deborah Phillips, retains the copyright of the piece.
